**Description:** A velvet-furred, slate-gray mammal with a very short tail and tiny eyes. They have a high metabolism and must eat constantly.
**Size & Weight:** 3–5 inches long. Weighs 0.5–1 oz.
**Behavior:** One of the few venomous mammals in the world; they use toxic saliva to paralyze earthworms and even small mice.
**Identification:** They use a primitive form of echolocation to navigate through tunnels and leaf litter.
**Habitat:** Moist leaf litter and tunnel systems across the forest floor.
