Snowy Owl

Species Description
**Description:** A massive, white owl with a rounded head and piercing yellow eyes; a rare visitor from the high Arctic tundra.
**Size & Weight:** 20–28 inches tall with a 4–5 foot wingspan. Weighs 3–6 lbs.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males are almost pure white; females have more heavy dark barring.
**Behavior:** Rare / Species of Concern. Unlike most owls, they are diurnal (active during the day). They often perch on the ground or low posts.
**Habitat:** Open meadows and farmlands; occasionally seen near Kinzua Dam in winter.
