Species Description

**Description:** A large aquatic lily with heart-shaped leaves and yellow, ball-shaped flowers that never fully open.
**Size:** Leaves can be 10 inches wide; stems can reach 6 feet to the pond bottom.
**Behavior:** The flowers produce a scent similar to fermented brandy to attract pollinating beetles.
**Identification:** The leaves may float on the surface or stand slightly above it on thick, spongy stalks.
**Habitat:** Shallow, quiet waters of ponds and reservoir coves.
