Species Description
**Description:** A large black-and-blue butterfly; the caterpillars are famous snake mimics with large fake eyespots on their heads.
**Size:** Wingspan of 3.5 to 4.5 inches.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Females have more extensive blue-green on the hindwings than males.
**Identification:** Hindwings are mostly black with a blue-green wash. Look for a row of orange spots on the wing underside.
**Habitat:** Moist woodlands where Spicebush grows in the understory.
