Spotted Lanternfly

Species Description

**Description:** An invasive planthopper with gray-spotted front wings and brilliant red-and-black hind wings visible in flight.
**Size:** Approximately 1 inch long.
**Invasive Impact:** A major threat to the forest; they weaken trees by sucking sap and secreting "honeydew" that leads to black mold.
**Life Cycle:** Lay gray, mud-like egg masses on vehicles and gear, allowing them to hitchhike to new areas.
**Habitat:** Meadows, forest edges, and vineyards; particularly attracted to Tree of Heaven and Maple.
