Species Description

**Description:** A large, smooth-skinned salamander with two rows of brilliant yellow or orange spots on a dark body.
**Size:** 6–9 inches long.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males have a swollen vent during the spring breeding season.
**Life Cycle:** They migrate to vernal pools on the first warm, rainy spring nights to lay gelatinous egg masses.
**Habitat:** Spend most of the year underground in rodent burrows or under leaf litter.
