Species Description

**Description:** A large, specialized dragonfly with a bronze-black body and a distinct yellow-spotted thorax.
**Size:** 2.5 to 3 inches long.
**Behavior:** High-speed fliers that "cruise" low over the surface of streams. Males are highly territorial over specific stretches of water.
**Identification:** Features large, iridescent emerald-green eyes and long legs that are used to snatch insects mid-air.
**Habitat:** Found near clear, sunlit forest streams with sandy or gravelly bottoms.
