Species Description
**Description:** A small understory tree with smooth green bark featuring distinct white vertical stripes.
**Size:** Typically 15 to 30 feet tall.
**Identification:** Features very large, three-lobed leaves that resemble a goose's foot. Bark remains green and striped even as the tree grows.
**Wildlife Value:** Known as "Moosewood" because the bark and twigs are highly prized winter food for deer and moose.
**Habitat:** Cool, shaded understory of the Allegheny Plateau.
