Species Description

**Description:** A wetland-specialist milkweed with bright pink-to-mauve flower clusters and narrow, pointed leaves.
**Size:** 3 to 5 feet tall.
**Wildlife Value:** High-priority host for Monarch butterflies; often provides a late-season refuge for caterpillars when upland milkweed has dried out.
**Identification:** Unlike Common Milkweed, this species lacks large seed pods and has smooth, non-fuzzy stems.
**Habitat:** Wet meadows, swampy edges, and muddy banks of the Allegheny River.
