Species Description
**Description:** A low-growing evergreen groundcover with waxy leaves and bright red, minty berries. Also known as "Teaberry."
**Size:** 2 to 6 inches tall.
**Identification:** Leaves turn reddish-bronze in winter; crushing them releases a potent "Pepto-Bismol" or wintergreen scent.
**Wildlife Value:** Critical winter survival food for Ruffed Grouse. Stays green and berried even under deep snow.
**Habitat:** Acidic soils under Eastern Hemlock and White Pine.
