**Description:** A small, slender fish with "X" and "W" markings on its sides providing camouflage against sandy bottoms.
**Size:** Typically 2 to 3.5 inches long.
**Behavior:** Lacks a functional swim bladder, allowing it to sit perfectly still on the bottom without floating. Moves in short, quick "darts."
**Identification:** Features a characteristic single anal spine.
**Habitat:** Clear forest streams and the shallower edges of the reservoir.
