Species Description
**Description:** A large, heavy-bodied venomous snake with a distinct rattle at the end of the tail; occurs in "yellow" and "black" color phases.
**Size:** Typically 3 to 5 feet long.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males grow larger than females.
**Conservation:** Rare / Species of Concern. Shy and non-aggressive, usually rattling only as a last resort.
**Habitat:** Rocky, sun-exposed ledges and talus slopes; hibernates in communal rookeries.
