Species Description

**Description:** A streaky brown sparrow of open meadows, identified by white outer tail feathers that flash during flight and a distinct white eye-ring.
**Size & Weight:** 5.1–6.3 inches long. Weighs 0.7–1.1 oz.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Monomorphic; sexes are identical.
**Identification:** Features a small rufous (rusty) patch on the "shoulder" of the wing.
**Behavior:** Named for their melodic song heard most frequently in the evening (vespers). They often sing from high perches like fence posts.
**Habitat:** Managed grasslands and agricultural openings surrounding the forest.
