Species Description

**Description:** Bell-shaped blue flowers that begin as pink buds in early spring; often found in dense, spectacular carpets.
**Size:** 1 to 2 feet tall.
**Behavior:** The flowers change color from pink to blue once pollinated and pH levels in the petals change, signaling to bees that nectar has been taken.
**Habits:** Truly ephemeral, disappearing completely by mid-summer. Best viewed during the first two weeks of May.
**Habitat:** Moist bottomlands and floodplains along the Allegheny and Clarion Rivers.
