Species Description
**Description:** A small aquatic insect that uses its long, hair-fringed hind legs like oars to "row" through the water.
**Size:** 0.1 to 0.5 inches long.
**Behavior:** Unlike backswimmers, they swim right-side up and primarily eat algae and plant debris. They carry a bubble of air under their wings to breathe.
**Identification:** Features a flattened, boat-shaped body. They are much more docile than their predatory cousins and lack a painful bite.
**Habitat:** Calm, still waters of the Allegheny Reservoir and forest ponds.
