Species Description

**Description:** A medium-to-large herbivore recognized by the white underside of its tail used as an alarm signal.
**Size & Weight:** 31โ€“40 inches at shoulder. Males weigh 150โ€“300 lbs; females 90โ€“200 lbs.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Bucks grow and shed antlers annually; does are smaller and antlerless.
**Conservation:** Common and abundant across the plateau.
**Habitat:** Ubiquitous; favors forest edges and areas with abundant woody browse.
**Behavior:** Crepuscular; they communicate through scent, posture, and vocalizations.
