White Trillium

Species Description

**Description:** A classic spring wildflower with three large white petals, three green sepals, and three leaves. Petals often turn pink as they age.
**Size:** Grows 8 to 18 inches tall.
**Behavior:** Spring ephemerals that bloom before the forest canopy closes. Seeds are spread by ants attracted to a fatty attachment called an elaiosome.
**Conservation:** Highly sensitive to picking; removing the flower prevents the plant from producing energy for several years.
**Habitat:** Found in rich, moist deciduous woods.
