Species Description

**Description:** A wetland plant with white, hood-like flowers that look remarkably like the head of a snapping turtle.
**Size:** 2 to 3 feet tall.
**Wildlife Value:** The primary host plant for the rare Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly. Flowers are so tightly closed only bumblebees can enter.
**Identification:** Features tight clusters of white flowers. Often found growing alongside Jewelweed.
**Habitat:** Swampy meadows and muddy banks of beaver ponds.
