Species Description
**Description:** A striking dragonfly with large dark brown patches at the base of the wings; mature males have a bluish-white abdomen.
**Size:** 1.7 to 2.0 inches long.
**Sexual Dimorphism:** Males develop a powdery white abdomen; females have a brown-and-yellow abdomen and less white in the wings.
**Behavior:** Territorial "perch-hunters." In flight, the male's white patches look like flickering strobe lights.
**Habitat:** Ponds, marshes, and shallow vegetated coves of the reservoir.
