Species Description
**Description:** A versatile native shrub that produces flat-topped clusters of white flowers followed by berries that transition from green to pink to deep blue-black.
**Size:** Reaches heights of 6 to 12 feet.
**Wildlife Value:** A primary food source for migratory songbirds; the dense branching provides excellent nesting sites for Catbirds and Thrashers.
**Identification:** Features leathery, oval leaves with a distinct "waxy" feel.
**Habitat:** Common along forest edges and in damp, rocky thickets.
