Species Description
**Description:** A unique native shrub that waits until the end of autumn to bloom with ribbon-like yellow flowers.
**Size:** Grows 10 to 15 feet tall.
**Behavior:** The last plant to flower in the forest. Ripe seed pods "explode" with a popping sound, launching seeds up to 30 feet.
**Identification:** Features distinctive zig-zag twigs. The bark is the source of skincare astringents.
**Habitat:** Shaded banks of forest streams and cool deciduous understories.
